Stanthorpe - Githabul Country

Hub Member: Queensland College of Wine Tourism

The Stanthorpe Node is dedicated to supporting horticulture, viticulture, and grazing farmers in southern Queensland by enhancing their drought resilience.

Our approach is farmer-led, focusing on what is important to the local community. We actively engage with farmers to understand their needs and link them with relevant organizations and programs that help achieve their goals.

Activities include:

  • Wellbeing and Preparedness: Collaborating with organisations to improve farmer wellbeing and preparedness through community events featuring expert speakers.
  • Knowledge Sharing and Resource Empowerment: Facilitating communication among farmers to help them learn from each other, grow their knowledge, and providing local organisations with the resources they need to support farmer knowledge growth.
  • Water Management: Focusing on water efficiency and evaporation mitigation to address the critical water needs of the area.
  • Grazing Community Support: Assisting the grazing community with planning and preparing for drought, addressing issues important to them.
  • Industry and Academic Connections: Connecting farmers with industry experts and university knowledge to support their resilience efforts.
  • Grant Assistance and Events: Helping groups and individual farmers find and apply for grants, organising dry season preparedness events, and facilitating opportunities to visit other areas and farms.
