免费色片 collaborates with Curtin University and the to operate a network of automated sky cameras to observe meteorites falling.
This Australian Desert Fireball Network was first established in 2005 as a trial of three remote operated film cameras to observe meteors falling towards Earth’s surface. It is now comprised of over 50 disruption-tolerant and fully autonomous digital observatories, including an automated meteor camera at Mount Kent Observatory.
This network continually monitors 3 million square km of the night sky – a third of Australian skies.
Images from different sites enable a fall to be located quickly, so a relatively pristine meteorite is recovered as a useful sample of the early Solar system.
